Summer Bodies are BS...

Summer bodies…

sigh

A term that gets thrown around from May-August every year, pushing us into this false narrative of needing to look a certain way just because the sun is out.

I feel obliged to mention to you that the term ‘Summer Body’ is simply a term made up by the fitness industry to pray on people’s insecurities.

Like so many things out there, it’s used to market certain fitness products, skinny teas and fads in order to make women feel crap about themselves.

Because when women feel crap about themselves, they look for something to help them feel better and make a change…

Which leads you to fall right into the laps of these corporations and companies, to buy whatever they’ve decided to sell that month.

Pretty shitty right?

I get it.

I once found the idea of summer crippling.

Having my legs out in shorts, wearing strappy tops and dresses…

And don’t even get me started on bikinis.

It used to terrify me, and made me feel so stressed for no reason.

But you have to remember that how you feel about your body shouldn’t dictate your actions this summer.

For example, going on holiday, meeting up with friends, outfit choices etc.

There is so much more to life.

I wasted so many years of my life thinking about what I look like, what people thought of my arms in that top, or how my legs looked when I sat in shorts.

And nothing changed.

So…

If you are headed to the beach this summer or you are worried about being out and about, here are 3 tips to remember:

  1. No one gives a fuck about what you look like. Literally no one! And if they do they are most likely projecting how they feel about themselves onto you. Other people’s opinions of you are a. nothing to do with you, and b. not something you should ever be particularly concerned about.

  2. Your body is your business and no one else’s. Anyone that thinks they have a say in your body, or what you look like, could do with a harsh reality check (and sometimes you may be the one to do that for them!)

  3. It’s okay to want to change your body, but only if it’s coming from a genuine place of something you want to do. No, not because the Kardashian’s body type is in, or because The Daily Mail says we should all be a size 6. Wanting to change your body has to come from a place of genuine reason, e.g. for health or for the feeling associated with it, otherwise you’ll be forever chasing an unattainable standard that changes every few years.

Some of that may sound harsh, I know.

But that’s what I’m here for.

No BS info to help you actually be happy in the body you live in, and live a healthy, well-rounded life.

Whatever it is, I got you!
