4 Things That Changed My Life...
And Repaired my Relationship With Myself đź’š
I hosted a call the other day with a small group of women all about relationships with food…
One thing we touched on was healthy habits vs disordered habits.
You might be shocked at this but there is one hell of a cross over…
Counting calories can be great - if you can take it with a pinch of salt, not so great if it becomes an obsession and you cant go a single day without doing so.
Exercising is fantastic for your mental health and improving your wellbeing, not so great if you find yourself moving your body for the sole purpose of burning calories.
And the list went on and on…
Anyway, it really got me thinking:
If I managed to realise this issues in myself earlier on than I would have saved myself a hell of a lot of heart break.
See, with National ED Awareness Week coming to an end, I wanted to touch on a few things that really put landmarks in my journey and my recovery.
Recognising that I had a problem…
This one was hard!
I don’t think I truly understood how bad the issue was until I fully recovered.
Talking about the problem…
Actually voicing and saying it out loud almost felt like a massive weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
Eating my first fear food…
Chocolate was my enemy for the majority of my life! Taking the first bite of something that I had avoided for so long really felt like I had transformed (and was DELICIOUS).
Exercising for enjoyment and not to burn calories…
The day I took that fitness tracker off, it was like I had entered heaven - I have honestly never felt so free!
There is so many more that I could go over, but quite frankly I would be here forever.
What I’m trying to say is, it’s a hard journey but life is so beautiful on the other side!
I still have thoughts of feelings that I have to contend with every so often, but that voice is a hell of a lot quieter then it once was.
If you find yourself falling into difficult thoughts and habits around food and exercise, just know that it does get better - and the best thing you can do is ask for help and have someone in your corner who backs you every step of the way.
